Plastic Surgery and Breast Augmentation

by Andrew W Johns on November 8, 2009

There are many factors causing women to consider breast augmentation. There are women who do not like the size or shape of their breasts. This dislike can cause self esteem issues, leading to unhappiness. There are also women who choose implants due to a run in with breast cancer. Surviving breast cancer can leave a woman with portions or all of her breast or breasts changed. Implants are chosen for a number of reasons. More commonly than not, after an implant procedure, there is an emotional rise in the well being and appearance of the patients.

Modern implants are more expensive than they were before. However, the different shapes and sizes allow women to custom the look that will suit them. The woman receiving the implants must consider the shape that she wishes to see after surgery and she must share this with her surgeon.

When it comes to breast augmentation procedures, another thing that a woman considering the operation should think about is the incision site. There are three different possibilities. Firstly, the implant can be inserted where the breast meets the lower chest. This leaves a small scar, but it is hidden by its location. Another possibility is that the incision can be made where the areola meets the skin of the breast. The implant is then inserted into a pocket made under the muscle. Lastly, an incision can be made in the armpit, or axillary. For the surgeon, this is slightly more work, due to the fact that there is a larger distance between where the implant will lie and where the incision is made.

When considering breast augmentation, it is important to know exactly the appearance the patient wants when the surgery is completed. If the woman getting the implants is not specific and honest with herself and her surgeon of choice, she will not get the look that she has in mind in the end.

Every body is different so the same implant will look different on every person. A plastic surgeon will be able to give invaluable advice while making this decision.

Before undergoing the breast augmentation, you must discuss all of this with your surgeon. There are many qualified surgeons in the United States to choose as your doctor for the procedure. A little time spent researching will help you find the right doctor for you.
